Special Education

Mission Statement

In partnership with students, families, staff and the community, The Indianapolis Public Schools Department of Special Education promotes the educational achievement of all students in a unified system.

Goal #1

Facilitate the implementation of effective instructional and behavioral interventions, supports and services for all students consistently across the district.

Goal #2

Utilize the existing information sharing systems in the department, district and community to enhance communication.

Goal #3

Develop and facilitate the implementation of effective options for students in special education excluded from the traditional school environment.

Differentiated Instruction Course

Year long course for General Education and Special Education teachers. Participants learn a variety of strategies to meet the instructional needs of the students in their classes. On site visits by the professor with immediate feedback is part of the program. Teachers are expected to complete a differentiated unit, which will be placed on a website. College credit is available through IUPUI.
